Bell Pepper Rings

Bell Pepper Rings

Here is my last minute contribution to the events, Spicy Tasty’s Fortune Cooking Contest and Pooja’s Vow- JFI “Bell Peppers” event. As this is a hors d'oeuvre (appetizer), I am also sending this to Mansi’s Monthly Mingle - Appetizers & Hors'Doeuvres event.

I have chosen Leo as my zodiac sign to prepare a dish using Bell Peppers for Fortune Cooking Contest. Leo is the zodiac sign of my big sister R. Here are some qualities of a Leo according to astrology:
Generous and warmhearted
Creative and enthusiastic
Broad-minded and expansive
Faithful and loving

All these above qualities apply to my dear sister, who is a dear friend of mine rather than a sister. She gives me so much moral support in everything. I remember her even helping me do my homework from school. She was (is and will be) my best friend. She is like a right hand to me. I love you dear Sis! Here is a yummy recipe for you!

Now, it’s time for the recipe.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper
  • 1 Yellow Bell Pepper
  • 1 cup Chickpea Flour (Besan, Senagapindi)
  • ½ cup Rice Flour
  • ½ tsp Red Chili Powder
  • A pinch of Baking Soda
  • Sour Buttermilk to make batter
  • Salt as required
  • Oil to deep-fry

Preparation:
  1. Wash and take out the seeds from the bell peppers.
  2. Then slice them into rings as in the picture above. Keep aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix besan with rice flour + chili powder + soda + salt and make into a thick batter using the sour buttermilk. Just plain water also can be used instead of buttermilk to make the batter.
  4. In a deep-bottomed pan heat the oil. When the oil is hot, dip the bell pepper rings in the batter prepared above and carefully drop in the hot oil.
  5. When they turn golden brown in color, take them out of the oil and spread on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Repeat the same process with rest of the rings.
  6. These rings taste so crunchy when they are hot and become a little soft when cold. But the taste is so yummy either hot or cold.
  7. Enjoy these bell pepper rings with tea.
