“Trendy Relish is my mom’s blog. You should look at it if
you want to cook some yummy food. I tried some of her food. It is really good!
Trendy Relish Rocks! I LOVE IT!”
No, I am not bragging, those were the words of my little one
(a second grader). One day she was writing something seriously and I peeked and
found this note. I was so surprised and felt happy. Thought of sharing this
with you :)
OK. Coming to today’s recipe, I recently tried pakodas with
brown rice and they turned out so delicious. I shared these pakodas with some
of our friends and they all liked them. I tried
many recipes with brown rice
and posted before. I felt so happy that brown rice pakodas came out well and
are a healthy way to eat pakodas. I deep fried the pakoda this time and am
planning to bake them soon to see how they taste when baked.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Brown Rice
- ½ cup Chickpea Flour (Senagapindi, Besan)
- ½ tsp red Chili Powder (can be replaced with green chilies)
- 1 small Onion, finely diced
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
- A pinch of Baking Soda
- Salt
- Oil to deep fry
Preparation:
- Wash and soak brown rice overnight.
- Grind soaked brown rice into a smooth paste (don’t add too
much water). It’s OK if it is little coarse.
- Add chickpea flour + red chili powder + onion + baking soda
+ cumin seeds to the brown rice batter and mix well to form a thick paste. Make
sure not to add too much water to the batter. It should be thick.
- Pour oil in the pan and heat. When the oil becomes hot, take
small batches of the pakoda batter and drop carefully into the hot oil.
- Deep fry until the pakodas turn golden brown in color and
remove from oil. Place on a plate lined with paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Repeat the same process with remaining batter.
- Enjoy these great tasting and healthy pakodas with
tea/coffee and desired dip.
- Yummy!!

Yummy recipe!
Hi Uma,
the recipe looks delicious and healthy. I have a side question. What grinder do you recommend for such jobs like rice grinding. Any particular brand and model that worked really well for you?
thanks.
@prax
Thanks for dropping by! I usually use Butterfly wet grinder or sometimes regular blender (I use Osterizer Company) for grinding rice. Regular Indian mixers also can do that job well. Just add little water while grinding rice, otherwise soaked rice won't grind well.
Wow!! This seems really delicious! I'm ggonna try it! :)
